What is the new ‘Attention needed’ tab and how does it help surface underpaid 2025 positions?
Logan Jessop, Client Solutions Expert
To support you through the busy period and help you stay on top of 2025 tax positions, we’ve introduced a new ‘Attention needed’ tab in the Tax Traders portal.
This workflow tool gives accountants clearer visibility of clients with income tax shortfalls for the 2025 tax year, helping you see who needs attention and who may benefit from using tax pooling to reduce their exposure to interest and eliminate late payment penalties.
How does it work?
The ‘Attention needed’ tab brings together clients who require action based on their 2025 income tax position.
As returns are filed with Inland Revenue (IR) and updated, the tab surfaces clients who:
- Are currently in an underpaid position for the 2025 tax year.
- May be accruing use-of-money interest (UOMI) and late payment penalties.
- Have tax pooling positions that may need to be reviewed or actioned.
Instead of relying on manual checks or spreadsheets, this gives you a single place to see which clients need attention right now.
Why is this useful?
At this stage of the tax cycle, things get busy and underpaid positions can be easy to miss.
The ‘Attention needed’ tab is designed to:
- Make underpaid 2025 positions visible earlier
- Reduce manual checking and cross-referencing
- Help ensure no client slips through the cracks
- Give you confidence that the right action is being taken at the right time, ahead of legislative cutoffs for the 2025 tax year
Importantly, this isn’t a static list. The tab updates automatically as new 2025 positions are identified based on return filing.
Who can access this feature?
The ‘Attention needed’ tab is available to firms that have:
- An IR data feed connected and synced
- Firmwide view enabled
What if I can’t see the ‘Attention needed’ tab?
If the tab isn’t visible:
- Check that your IR data feed is connected and synced
- Confirm that firmwide view is enabled for your firm
Once both are in place, the ‘Attention needed’ tab will appear on the taxpayer dashboard and begin updating as new 2025 positions are identified.
In summary
The ‘Attention needed’ tab is designed to help accountants stay on top of underpaid 2025 income tax positions without adding manual work.
It’s about making the invisible visible, reducing risk, and giving you confidence that no client is missed during a busy period.
